Thank you so much for having me on your blog, Jessica, and for helping me launch Eternal Road – The final stop. I know you are very busy with your recent launch of Guns of Perdition so I’m happy you made the time to host my launch. Let me describe the book. Eternal Road is the story of two people finding their way through the selection process leading to the place where one will spend eternity. Yes, it is true. They both have passed away. James Wainwright just died in an auto accident. Samantha Tourneau died seventeen years before. Sam is James’s guide to help him decide where to spend eternity. This is not your usual thriller or paranormal romance. It is a piece of fiction that is a combination of inspiration, adventure, time travel, sci-fi, a touch of erotica, and a dash of spiritual. In short, it is a lot of things, but hopefully, a story that will make you happy to have read it.

Eternal Road – The Final Stop – Blurb

James Wainwright picks up a hitchhiker and discovers two things 1. The woman he picks up is his childhood sweetheart, only Seventeen years older. 2. He is no longer of this world.

James began a road trip alone in his 1956 Oldsmobile. He stops for a hitchhiker only to discover she is his childhood sweetheart, Sam, who disappeared seventeen years before. James learns from Sam falling asleep miles back caused him to perish in a one-car accident. He also comes to understand that Sam was taken and murdered all those years ago, and now she has come back to help him find his eternal home.

The pair visit a number of times and places and are witness to a number of historical events. The rules dictate that they do no harm to the time continuum. Trying to be careful, they inadvertently come to the attention of Lucifer, who would love to have their souls as his subjects. They also find a threat to human survival and desperately need to put in place the fix necessary to save humankind.

The question becomes, will James find his eternal home in grace or lose the battle with Satan for his immortal soul and the future of human life with it? If you like time-travel, adventure, mystery, justice, and the supernatural, this story is for you.

An Excerpt

Sam leans closer to James. “I think we ought to go to Tombstone and see the gunfight for ourselves.”
James’s eyes bulge. “Uh, hello? Aren’t we supposed to be on some kind of quest to eternity?”
Sam smiles. “Yeah, but why not have a bit of fun on the way?”
“I remember Tombstone from their newspaper, the Tombstone Epitaph.”
Sam sits back. “You do? I’m shocked.”
“Yeah, I was a journalism student in high school and studied several newspapers.”
James gets lost in his memories.
Sam suggests, “Why don’t we visit the Epitaph office?”
James stares at her with pure delight. Then he takes her hand and closes his eyes. In a fraction of a second, they both find themselves seated in the Oldsmobile once again.
“Whoa, that was new.”
“I took your hand, and we traveled together. You never tried that before?”
She glares at him, but her grin of delight belies her mock sternness. “I never came to get anyone before, remember?”
“Right. Yeah. I say we drive to Tombstone and check out the paper.”
“Okay, but you’ll have to trust me on this one. We’ll take the Oldsmobile but won’t actually drive.”
James frowns. “How do we do that?”
“Close your eyes and think about the Epitaph as you remember it. Hold my hand, and let’s see if we can all go, including the Oldsmobile.” James takes Sam’s hand and, for the first time, notices how warm she feels to the touch. Her delicate fingers wrap around James’s in such a way that a pleasant heat spreads upward from her hand to his cheeks. He almost opens his eyes to take a look at the union but resists. A blackness passes through him, as if he just passed an intangible barrier.
“We’re here.”
James’s eyes pop open, and until they clear, all he sees is a blurry building through the windshield of the car. “Where are we?”
“Tombstone, silly. Exactly where we wanted to go. We’re outside the Tombstone Epitaph office.”
James shakes his head to clear his vision and his mind. “My gosh. I can’t believe we made it.”
“We ought to go inside and, maybe, get a handle on what year we landed.”
“Did you think of a year when you thought of the Epitaph?”
Sam furrows her brows. “No, I did all I could do to concentrate on the Epitaph.”
James squeezes her hand. “Since the paper is still being published, we could have landed in 2020.”
Sam looks at him, and her eyes narrow to slits. “You have got to be kidding me.” She pulls her hand away from his. “I didn’t realize the paper was still going. I assumed it died when Tombstone died in the late 1880s. I guess I should have concentrated on a date like 1881 when the gunfight at the O.K. Corral took place.”

John is an award-winning author who, after an extensive business career, began writing full time in 2012. His specialty is thriller fiction novels, but John also writes poetry and short stories. He has written five other books that are on Amazon in paperback and Kindle editions. The paperback versions are also available in the Indie Lector store.
John lives in Lakeway, Texas, with his wife and their spoiled rescue pets.

  8. Great to see John here today, Jessica! Two of my favorite online friends at one time. Yay! Super excerpt, John, and as you know, I have this on my Kindle. All I need is a stinkin’ little bit of dadblamed reading time. Oh. Did I say that out loud? Sorry. Ahem. I mean, I just need a few quiet moments in which to indulge my love of reading, especially with Eternal Road. There. That sounds better. 😀 But no matter how I say it, it’s true. I hope to read this one soon!

      1. Dadblamed could be the bedrock word for all southern conversations, even now, I think. 😀 When we’re watching our language in mixed company, that is. 😀 I enjoyed my visit, thanks! (Of course, it was too dadblamed short, but that’s how it goes these days. Rush, rush, rush.)
