What inspires your writing?
D Wallace Peach mused about reading and how it impacts your writing, but what else impacts or inspires you and your writing?
For me, it’s mostly music and images.
To that end, here’s a couple of things that inspired Guns of Perdition.
Bringing Home The Rain – The Builders and the Butchers
So what about you? Care to share some of your inspiration?
For me it’s
a.) Love
b.) Pain
c.) Music
d.) Longing/Desire in all its forms
Not sure if those are actual inspirations, but in whatever form I find those things, writing tends to happen. At will. No control, lol
Oh!
e.) Perpetual lack of self control!

Cool images. Graphics and music are big with me too, but it could be anything. People watching in airports is wonderful.

My husband and I are a little crueler, we call it freak watching at the airport 🥴

Ooooh. I can see it, Jess., especially the image of the gunslinger with the hat brim hiding her face. Thanks for linking – that’s sweet of you. ❤ I hope editing is going well and you're liking the outcome.

It’s a loooooooong process Diana. I’ve been through once and am about to do another pass.

It is loooooong, isn’t it? But it’s what we do. 🙂

The silver lining is that by the next book, I’ll be so sick of editing, I’ll write better in the first place 😉

I’m pretty visual, so something I see can trigger a random idea. More often though, it’s just a stray thought that sends me down the rabbit hole of novel plotting.
Then I surround myself with images and music as I write 🙂
Fun post, Jess!

I found this beautiful quote from William Goldman (of The Princess Bride fame), that goes “I write out of revenge”, and I know it sounds bad, but it goes hand in hand with the Harry Rollins quote “I am motivated by vengeance” – a lot of my stories start when I perceive something wrong, when there’s some idea or attitude that rubs me the wrong way, and I want to get back at it, or refute it, or set it straight.
Then of course there’s music – I like songs that tell stories. And other people’s stories, too – Ilike biographies, and travel memoirs, and history books.

I like the idea of writing out of vengeance, or, righting a wrong with your writing 😊

Those creature pics are something! I can’t wait to read your novel if that’s what inspired you.
I’m not usually inspired visually. It’s more the stuff in my head that I want to get out. Sometimes music speaks to me, but more often than not, it’s just the general crazy that is my mind.
