My long weekend of solid editing didn’t quite go as planned. I did sink uncountable hours into the task and I did get a crick in the neck for my troubles. But I only got half the beast edited. And, as dear hubby pointed out, I’m editing on paper which means I still need to go back and put all my changes into Scrivener.
But, on the plus side, I’ve sorted through my TBR (to be read) pile and have three books coming up that I’m super excited about.
The first, which I’m a quarter through, is Catling’s Bane by D Wallace Peach. I’ve had this in my pile for such a long time and I’m so glad I’m finally reading it. Not only is ‘D’ a wonderful blogger, her worldcrafting is second to none. I’m instantly hooked in this strange, alien world she’s crafted. Full review on Amazon and Goodreads in a few weeks.
My second TBR is a book I’ve only recently picked up, and was not one on my radar, but when I saw what Nicolas Rossis’s Book, Infinite Waters was about, I knew I had to grab it. As I’ve said before, dark fantasy / speculative fiction is my jam, and a whole book of short stories in this genre… why yes, thank you very much! Again, stay tuned for reviews.
My third TBR that I’m so excited for is Aculeo and Amunet by Davide Mana. I’ve been following Davide’s blog for over a year and have been incredibly impressed. Not only are his blog posts thoroughly inetersting (and often left of field), he’s about one of the nicest, most helpful guys you could come across. So I thought it about time to back my friend and check out one of his many published books. This seemed a great place to start as I’ve long been fascinated with Ancient Rome.
So, while not the exact plan I had in mind, it was still not a bad long weekend.
Thank you so much for that, you’ve made my day! Not just because I’m mentioned here along Peach, one of my favorite authors (and I agree completely; her worldbuilding and writing is awesome) but because I’ve made it into your TBR (yay!) I hope you enjoy it. Mind you, it’s not as dark as, say, You’re in for a Ride (my fourth collection of shorts) so I hope that’s OK. If you’d rather read Ride, I’d be happy to send you an ARC!
Thanks again 🙂

My absolute pleasure! I’m really looking forward to Infinite, and I dare say I’ll gobble through your other anthologies too 😉👍

I say a long weekend and half way through your editing task is a success. That’s a big project, and the crick in your neck proves it.:-) Good luck with the rest of your editing process, and happy reading!

Thanks so much for the shout out, Jess, and for starting my book. I’m just tickled and doing a happy dance. 🙂 I’m sorry though that the editing didn’t go as planned, but each hour is an hour checked off. Thank you again! ❤

That’s a good outlook Diana. I’m such a glass is half empty. I said to hubby I got halfway through and he was all “oh so great, wow!” … he’s the exact opposite to me. 🙂
Glad I made you happy dance today! I love making peoples’ days!

I’m still in the editing pit myself, Jess, and didn’t finish what I wanted to 😦
A few more days should do it for me—and then I’m going to tackle my TBR. I can’t wait to get back into my regular nightly reading mode!

Do you find you have to stop reading while editing or is it just to make extra time for the task. I HAVE to stop or whatever I’m reading also gets edited (in my head)!

I only stop reading when I’m under a time crunch on a deadline. Otherwise I read constantly, even when I’m writing or editing!

Thank you! And thanks for your kind words.
I hope you like my sword & sorcery stories (I’m writing a new batch, but I still haven’t an ETA – Aculeo & Amunet are like old friends I go back to when I am unhappy or frustrated).

My pleasure, lovely one! I’m genuinely looking forward to A&A… as I’ve alluded to in the past, I wrote a three book series (fanfiction) based in the Skyrim universe, where my main character was an assassin Imperial which basically means Roman. This series, with a lot of tweaking, is what I intend to base my own Roman series on when I get done with Guns. So, yeah, I love the genre!

I’m awaiting edits back from my beta reader. May I ask, what changed your mind about going Indie versus traditional?

A lot of different reasons. The primary reason though was my genre, dark fantasy. There are about two, maybe three, large publishers currently actively accepting submissions for dark fantasy. There are about 12 small presses doing the same. Not good odds on being picked up. Then, if I AM picked up, I’ll still have to do a lot of marketing myself. It just seemed like the cons outweighed the pros.
Of course, I’ll probably change my mind again ten times before I actually publish.

I’ve been back and forth as well. I have anxiety about both ways, lol.
