“Music has the charms to soothe the savage beast.”
I’ve been ruminating on how much music means to me. Music has the ability to lift me up, to make me cry, to take me away from this world. Music is also a major influence on my writing. I am either inspired by music or use music to help me get in the writing zone.
So I figured it was only fair to honour music with a regular blog feature where I will pay homage to the songs that move me, and the incredible talent that made them.
So without any further ado, I bring you…
Songday Sunday
Today’s song is a new song in my world. Though I have been a fan of the incredible Chris Stapleton for some time, his masterful ‘Either Way’ is only a new(ish) release on his album From A Room: Volume 1.
Stapleton’s raw, powerful vocals are accompanied by a single aquoustic guitar, masterfully played by Stapleton himself. Combine the ache of Stapleton’s wail with haunting lyrics and ‘Either Way’ has all the ingredients to tug painfully on the heartstrings.
This song is one of those that makes me instantly want to write the larger story that goes with the lyrical snapshot. How did these lovers fall out of love? What happened to make him so callously declare he won’t love her if she goes or stays? One day perhaps I will.
For now, I implore you to listen to Stapleton’s ‘Either Way’ and feel all the feels for yourself.

They say scents are the greatest memory-inducers, but music is so emotional… songs always conjure memories for me. (And all the feels, too!) Thanks for sharing, Jessica.

Chris Stapleton was a fairly new discovery for me with the introduction of this song. Once I heard it on the radio, I looked it up online so I could hear the lyrics again, and again. Love it! Thanks for sharing Jess!

This was my first experience of Chris Stapleton and I am interested. I get the impression that his music would be good to contemplate the universe to.

Some, very much so. Some is tongue-in-cheek ‘stoner’ music. Some just yank on those heartstrings…

I enjoyed that, Jess. I have to admit, I’d never heard of him.

Thanks for sharing this, Jess, and it’s a good song! While it’s not my usual type of music (I prefer lyricless ones), I enjoyed this nonetheless. 😀🎼🎧
Songday Sunday is a great idea! I look forward to the next one. ❤
